NATIVE COURTYARD

This Japanese-inspired courtyard is thoughtfully designed to unify the existing sauna and detached work studio, creating a cohesive flow between the two spaces while preserving a calming yet subtly invigorating atmosphere. The layout establishes a more welcoming arrival into the fenced garden and introduces a small patio ideal for intimate gatherings or quiet morning coffee. An accordion-style fence allows the courtyard to open seamlessly into the outer lawn, expanding the usable space for the larger biannual events hosted by the owners.

Toward the back of the courtyard, more secluded zones create a layered sense of retreat. A cedar soaking tub sits beside the sauna, surrounded by a small “mini forest” of verdant plantings that heighten the feeling of immersion and privacy. Near the office, an intimate, contemplative patio offers a quiet pause point, perfect for stepping away from the workday, taking breaks in the fresh air, and reconnecting with the surrounding landscape
